Helix is not copy-protected in the ordinary sense — you can make many copies of it from the original program disk as safety backups, and for personal use on your Macintosh at home. You can install Helix on a hard disk and use it without restrictions. However, you are not given permission to run the same copy of Helix on several machines simultaneously (and you will not be permitted to do so if the machines are on the same network).
Helix Client/Server. The same ideas apply, with one addition. Each Helix Server is set to work with a specific number of “Clients,” based on fees and agreements with Helix Technologies. You may copy your Client disk with no restrictions, but the Server will not simultaneously accommodate more than the licensed number of Clients. If the Server application is copied, and appears on the network at the same time as the original, the total number of Clients allowed on the network remains the same.
Our “protection scheme,” then, is the good faith agreement of the license you accepted when you purchased Helix — that you would only make copies for your personal use.
